Leading wine publication Decanter has not only given Champagne Bollinger La Grande Année 2008 high marks with a 97 Point score, but it has also dedicated a feature to highlight the label’s new packaging, innovation at the winery and a look back at more than a century of La Grande Année vintages dating back to 1918. The publication notes that La Grande Année “is not only the millesime of the house, but also its cornerstore of style.” This beautifully detailed piece goes into several specifics that differentiate Bollinger from other Houses as it relates to production. Additionally, Cellar Master Gilles Descotes is quoted noting that “Beyond being the house’s unique expression of a harvest, this cuvee is also the fruit of traditional expertise that has become rare in Champagne.” Decanter attended the official launch event for the vintage at the Estate and was surprised to experience a vertical tasting of La Grande Année vintages dating back to 1918. La Grande Année: The Great Year. This Champagne is the embodiment of everything that makes Bollinger the producer that stands apart in Champagne. Bollinger is one of the rare Grande Marques that’s still family owned. Known for its rich, elegant and polished style of Champagne, their outstanding wines are the result of rigorous attention to detail and incredibly labor-intensive practices that few houses are willing to undertake. Underscoring its excellence, Bollinger has remained British secret agent James Bond's Champagne of choice since 1973.
