Vinepair contributor Ed Deitch wrote a glowing review of the Gary Farrell Winery 2018 Russian River Selection Chardonnay in a dedicated post. Deitch describes this Gary Farrell expression as bright, balanced and leaner in style, defying the big fruit, high alcohol profile typically found in California Chardonnay.
The piece delves into the alcohol and style and selection of fruit, and also sheds light on the 2018 vintage in Sonoma, “which was considered exceptional with a long growing season that brought concentration to the fruit while maintaining natural acidity.” He adds, “that pretty much sums up this Gary Farrell Chardonnay.”
As far as the flavor profile, “its mouthfeel is mid-weight and its overall character is fresh and precise, with notes of pear, apricot, grapefruit, and Meyer lemon.” Continuing, “there’s a touch of salinity, and it’s all framed by nuanced oak, which comes through as a subtle layer of vanilla and spice. The tastes really emerge as the wine warms up a bit.”
It won’t be hard to pair this with any number of dishes at home this holiday season. as Deitch offers a plethora of recommendations. This would be a star at Thanksgiving as well! Read the full write up HERE
